Dave’s Thursday Blog

Right now I am starting this blog with training wheels.  I only able to post on Thursdays, but hopefully if I get better at this I can post more.  Enjoy!

Thursday October 30th

A great link on the dangers of self-righteousness from the grandson of Billy and Ruth Graham.  This is particularly relevant because of the election this upcoming Tuesday...we are so apt to be Pharisaical on both sides.

Thursday September 25th

I’m speechless...

But, really, where would entertainment be without YouTube?

Thursday, September 18th

This is an article that has bearing for what it means to learn and concentrate in an age of cyberspace.  Is the medium of the internet effecting our ability to think deeply about a subject?  And what are the implications particularly for prayer and bible reading?

Often we complain about our devotional times being too self-oriented—meaning we look to what the text says to me without first looking at the situation in which it was written.  But now I wonder if (because of the way we have trained our brains to skim and read on cyberspace) we will be able to concentrate at all on a Bible passage.  There are no links, no tantalizing headlines to explore, but words that need to be explored, rolled over, questioned to get to the author’s meaning.

Don’t get me wrong, this is not an "internet is evil" rant (I am posting this on the internet), but the internet has subtle implications and it seems that its medium is becoming the way we hear the message.
